WMHA Rep Program
Welcome to the Woolwich Minor Hockey Representative Hockey Program. The following information is intended to provide you with a greater understanding of our rep. program, the commitment required and to help you manage your expectations.
We are not here to produce Junior draft selections or National Hockey League players. Nor can we promise a college or university scholarship. Rather, we are here to assist in the development of children as individuals and team members. Hockey, like all team sports, is about making life long friends. Our goal is to bring a group of individuals together that will work for a common goal (the team). Pursuing one's individual goals and ambitions is solely up to the player and his or her own ability and desire. The coaches we select have a mandate to increase your child's hockey knowledge and an understanding of the skills required to be successful.
We would love to say that every child in our program would achieve his or her goals of getting that scholarship or playing in the NHL. But that is not a realistic expectation (see article). We can say though, that the children in our program will be given an opportunity to gain a greater understanding of hockey. They will know that a team working for a common goal is greater than individual glory.
Playing Representative hockey requires ability, desire and a good attitude, but also a commitment to the team. The coaches, as selected by the Coaching Selection Committee and then affirmed by the Executive, are committed to be at both practices and games. Woolwich Minor Hockey Association, the coaching staffs and teammates, expect no less from each and every member of the team. As such, out of respect for all participants, any vacation time scheduled during the hockey season and other sport or club commitments should be addressed with the coaching staff prior to the selection of the team.

Rep Divisions
Woolwich Minor Hockey Representative Divisions range from Midget AA (the highest level) to A in all levels & AE (currently Midget, Bantam, PeeWee and Atom).
- WMHA will do its best to choose the best coaching staff available at each division.
- The coaching staff will select between 15 and 17 players.
- Selection will be based strictly on ability, attitude and knowledge of the game.
- The coaching staff will outline its coaching philosophy in a meeting prior to the start of the season.
- Ice time is not guaranteed and the coaching staffs will be responsible for the allocation of ice time, however we will strive to allocate equal ice time for all during the regular season, including goaltenders.
- Parents should feel free to talk to the coaching staff about issues pertaining to the development of their child.
- All communication between parents and coaching staff should be done in a professional, respectful and courteous manner.
- Tyke Select is new in 2009-2010. This is geared at stronger 7 year old players who play as a rep team in the Tri-county league. This is a novice level team.
- Major Novice A is geared at stronger 8 year old players that play as a rep team in the Tri-county league.
As an organization our goal is to provide children with the best coaching available and we entrust the coaches selected to develop players to their full potential.
